South India
December 2017
06
My third trip to India in 2017 happened because of my friend Rashmin from Pune. While I was in Kolkata in July he called and invited me for his sisters wedding in November. My friend Josefine and I decided to go, and that set off the idea of traveling down through South India.
The wedding, with all the different traditions and functions, lasted for five days. Then we traveled on by bus and train-yes a lot of hours were spend in trains, and ended the trip in Chennai where Josefine flew back to Denmark and I flew to Kolkata for a few days before coming home for Christmas. If you ask me, South India has a very laid back and chilled vibe compared to the North. It is still India, so the cities will always be chaotic with a lot of traffic but in the South you also see a lot more nature and it is not as packed with people as in cities like Kolkata and Delhi.

Despite December being high season, we didn’t run into a lot of tourists, well except when we stayed at a yoga-hostel in Mysore and in the days we spend by Varkala beach. That was a tourist paradise with surfing, fresh fish for dinner, and dirt cheap cocktails at night.
The best part of the trip though was eating masala dosas for breakfast, seeing colorful hectic flower markets, and watching sunsets by the ocean armed with mosquito spray, my camera and masala chai.
